Diaphoresis occurs in the first phase of alcohol withdrawal. It is an excessive sweating commonly associated with shock and other medical emergency conditions.
Some Physiological Causes
1) physical exertion
2) menopause
3) fever
4) spicy foods
5) high environmental temperature
6) strong emotions
7) remembrance of past trauma
Some Pathological Causes
1) hyperthyroidism and shock
2) Diabetics relying on insulin shots or oral medications
3) acute myocardial infraction (heart attack)
4) cocaine and amphetamines
Diaphoresis Treatment
1) If it is pathologic, the cause should be treated.
2) If it is caused by menopause, the patient should have estrogen replacement.
